This quarter has been craaaazy. I hurt my thumb and had to wait six weeks for it to heal. as soon as it got better, I caught swine flu. Now, the quarter system sucks in the event that you are sick. This is because missing one week of class on the quarter system is the same as missing two weeks of class on the semester system...or playing leapfrog with unicorns. Long story short, it's not a pleasant experience. More or less, I spent a week, laying around watching mythbusters. However, in this situation, "watching" is a word I use loosely to describe what was occurring when I wasn't falling asleep every few minutes. Now that I'm feeling better, I am being ambushed by work and attempting to get caught up with all the material. The knowledge that finals are looming just a few weeks away doesn't help to calm my nerves. I spend most of my time these days doing homework, studying, or working at one of my two jobs.
Despite all of that, the rest of the quarter has been pretty good. Janani and I got to go to Disneyland a few times (twice in a five day span). I've also been fortunate enough to Lindy Hop almost every week. Sometimes, more than once a week. I also recently went Contra dancing. It was pretty fun, although I am still feeling rather sore from it. Apparently all those muscles I use in Lindy Hop, are not the same as the muscles used in Contra dancing.
All things aside, I'm looking forward to Christmas break and the relaxation that hopefully comes with it along with the return of my roommate who has been studying and radiating awesome in Denmark.

Summer Skin
Summer has come to a close. Class started Thursday. It was a good summer though. I had a lot of new experiences and learned a lot from them. I developed closer friendships with friends I'd already had and I lost touch with others. I got in a lot of swing dancing and got a second job that pays really well. I temporarily became a knitting machine and I may have broken my thumb as well. All in all I feel that it has been a very rewarding summer and I'm sad to see it go.
Classes are going to be interesting. I'm taking Musical Acoustics, Java Programming, Visual Design, and Calculus. Hopefully we figure out what is wrong with my thumb soon, as it is driving me insane.
Squeaky swings and tall grass
The longest shadows ever cast
The water's warm and children swim
And we frolicked about in our summer skin
I don't recall a single care
Just greenery and humid air
Then Labor day came and went
And we shed what was left of our summer skin
On the night you left I came over
And we peeled the freckles from our shoulders
Our brand new coats so flushed and pink
And I knew your heart I couldn't win
Cause the seasons change was a conduit
And we left our love in our summer skin

The Show Must Go On
So, I've been in a slump lately. I can't really quite describe it. I'm sure it's something to do with hormones but it's horrible. I can't remember ever feeling quite so bleh without a reason before. Whatever is up, this nonsense needs to stop. It also doesn't help that I've been sick lately. I caught this cough thing that is awesome at keeping me awake all night and wont manage to die no matter how much vitamin C I pump into my system.
Regardless, I'm looking forward to my 5 day weekend coming up. It might prove to be rather lonely though. My roommate is going home and although my sister is getting married, I couldn't afford to go to home to be there for it. I'm hoping that I get to spend some time with my friend this weekend so as not to be stuck completely alone.
On another note, I recently got a pet betta named Adhemar. He's pretty rad, despite how angry he gets whenever I clean his tank.
Aaanyway, I should probably get to sleep. I need to get up early and I'm still fighting off the tail end of this cough thing.

Chapstick and Chapped Lips and Things Like Chemistry
Meh. I'm so sleepy. Although I went to sleep at a reasonable hour, I feel so exhausted. It probably doesn't help that I got woken up by a 4AM text message. All things aside, life is pretty good.
I'm reading The Restaurant at the End of the Universe, since I never finished it the first time. I'm also reading The Difference Engine. Usually, I have trouble trying to read more than one book at a time, but the writing style and plots are so drastically different, that for once, I'm finding the feat manageable.
Summer is nice. Work is significantly less busy during the summer to I find more time to read and relax. Job hunting is a pain because nobody is hiring, but otherwise I'm enjoying my time in San Diego. The weather is awesome. It's not ridiculously hot or humid as it was in Ohio and most days the heat is very tolerable. Most of my friends are here for the summer so it is nice to have things to do. Josh lent us his Killer Bunnies game, which has become almost a daily part of life at our apartment. I'm hoping to get the game for Christmas, but I'm sad at how far off that is. :p We also spend free time watching Big Bang Theory, which until recently, I was unaware even existed.

Love Me Dead
So, I finally moved into my off campus apartment in San Diego. It's bizarre how quickly time flies. Our apartment is pretty nice, although I'm sad that Caitlin wont be joining us until January. :( The room feels so big and empty right now, despite my stuff being strewn across the floor. I'm still in the process of unpacking everything. I just got a bed off a guy and Craigslist so, slowly but surely, my room is starting to look more like a room.
Also, the shuttle to campus near our apartment doesn't run in the summer. Awesome. It's not that far and I really wouldn't mind the walk if it wasn't so dang hot outside. I ended up buying a bike today. Although it's a cheap one, everything I had to get with it made it pretty expensive. I'm just happy that I don't need to walk to work at 8AM twice a week anymore. It'll also be nice to have it to ride during the school year so I don't have to wait around for busses all day.
All things aside, I'm really happy to be back. I've spent a lot of time with the Lindy crew this week, and they make me all kinds of happy. I went with a few of them to see Harry Potter at the midnight premiere. I was pretty pissed about the movie, but I wont get into that rant here.
Anyway this weekend is gonna be crazy busy but fun. I'm skipping the Pride Parade tomorrow morning to study for the math placement exam. It sucks, but I've been putting it off for months, and I really need to take that class in the fall. After the parade, Janani and I are gonna drive up to Irvine to pick up her stuff from her cousin and then heading up to visit the Joshster. Sunday we're planning on hitting up Disneyland and then driving in home that night in time to get some sleep before work Monday.

Innocence Again
This weekend was really good. To say that, is to some extent selling short just how good it really way. Friday night Jen and I stayed at Josh's and we stayed up late talking about religion and philosophy and such. It was nice to talk to sit down and just talk about stuff with both of them. Saturday was my birthday, so Josh and I went to Disneyland to celebrate. Since I have a season pass, I already get free admission so I got a $70 birthday fun card that had to be used on the day as a present from Disneyland. I ended up buying a new Nightmare Before Christmas hat, a black lanyard, a few new pins, and a pin for Josh. We ended up going on Space Mountain x3, along with Thunder Mountain, Indiana Jones, Pirates of the Caribbean, Star Tours, Mr. Toad's Wild Ride, Soarin' Over California, The Muppet Show x2. We didn't get to go on the Tea Cups or the Matter Horn because the lines were ridiculous. We were also sad that Fantasmic wasn't running this time of year. One of the ladies in the pin store told us that Fantasmic is getting a new dragon that is bigger. I'm pretty excited to see that, the Dragon was already awesome. We also managed to have some pretty awesome corn dogs and got chocolate mouse at Mimi's Cafe. We headed back to Josh's when then park closed at midnight and I passed out until about 11:30, and had breakfast while talking with Josh about his website before heading back to San Diego. While walking from the parking lot to my apartment, I ran into someone who was playing with his 2 hunting dogs. At the time, I was wearing my new huge hat and my pins and the man seemed a bit amused by them. After talking with him for a minutes I discovered that he's really good friends with my ICAM professor and helped to earn him the CALIT2 research building. The rest of the day was rather mundane. I was ridiculously tired, so I ended up sleeping most of the day. As a result, I now have to spend the rest of the week studying for my three midterms and working on my archaeology paper. Not to mention, I need to find a new topic for my MMW paper. I'd like to update this more often so that it is once again an accurate account of my life, but with all I have to do, this isn't very realistic.

Code Monkey
So I really fail at updating, but I'm going to try to be better about it because I know some of you actually do read this. I find myself really overwhelmed lately with homework. As I write this, I'm having my macbook read my reading about the Byzantine Empire to me. I'm finally finding ways to make my kinesthetic learning work for me. The voice reading to me is called Alex and it's a little weird because you can even hear him breathing while he reads to you.
I hope that I'm taking this in enough though, because I have a reading text on this tomorrow that is worth 10% of my grade. I'm taking the class pass/no pass so I only need to get above a C- to pass and right now I'm in the B/B- range, so I probably shouldn't worry about it, but I still want to do well. I also need to interview my grandma for my anthropology project/paper. Hopefully I will be able to do that sometime early this weekend. The write up for it is really long and due on Wednesday.
Aside from classes, things are pretty good. I'm swing dancing a few times a week, which makes me ridiculously happy. :) I'm still not very good, but I'm trying really hard to get better. I also started actually going to RIMAC and working out before class a few days a week, which is good for me. I'm getting a lot of homework done while riding the bikes which is always a plus.
